12 Major Scales – One Octave
This is a .pdf file of all 12 major scales – one octave – and their coordinating fingerings.
Scales are a helpful tool for many purposes. One of the many reasons why I focus on scales is because they allow us to get a better understanding of where the notes lie on the fingerboard. A bit more important for upright bassists, knowing how to maneuver around your fingerboard is crucial to making walking and solo lines fluid and organic.
It’s sometimes better to play a passage across a few strings horizontally, than to play the same passage vertically down one string.
Make sure to learn how the scale is played, but also the notes, intervals, modes, and key signatures for each key.
